What you'll learn

By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to ask questions with do and does and keep the main verb in its base form.

When do I use it?

Use "do/does" to ask about actions and routines with any verb except "to be". "Does" works with he/she/it and "do" with I/you/we/they. The helper carries the action, so the main verb goes back to its base form.

How do I form it?

Do / Does + subject + base verb

Do you work on Sundays? Does she live in Madrid? Do they speak French? Does your brother play piano?

Common mistakes for Spanish speakers

Warning

The -s belongs to the helper, not the main verb. "Does she works?" is wrong — it's "Does she work?" Also, don't skip the helper because Spanish doesn't use one: "Trabajas aquí?" becomes "Do you work here?", never "Work you here?"

Hint

When "does" arrives, the main verb takes its shoes off: "works" becomes "work".
